Visionary and Beyond

Greetings, I’m Dean Vallecillo, a New Orleans-born musician whose career spans over four decades of creative exploration and musical innovation. I welcome you to dive into my life long adventure, starting with the recent release of Visionary Man, a melodic hard rock and progressive rock album recorded between 1989 and 1992. Now unveiled, it stands as a testament to the era’s bold ambition. This website is your gateway to my music, legacy, and ongoing creative endeavors, all rooted in the colorful musical heritage of my hometown.

My vocal style, shaped by the emotive power of John Wetton, Phil Collins, and Greg Lake, also carries the soulful essence of New Orleans, influenced by Motown and the musical giants of my birthplace. My bass playing draws inspiration from James Jamerson’s groove as much as the technical brilliance of Chris Squire. As a songwriter, I craft narratives inspired by the evocative storytelling of Kerry Livgren and Peter Gabriel, alongside the cinematic scope of ‘80s icons like Asia’s accessible orchestral textures, Yes’s intricate progressions, Shooting Star’s heartfelt Midwest melodicism, and Kansas’s epic song structures. Over the past 30 years, I’ve explored diverse genres, from Crossover Christian music in the late 1990s to Adult Contemporary and Jazz in the 2000s. Currently, I’m developing a funky, memorable Mardi Gras anthem paired with an R&B B-side, set for recording in New Orleans in 2026 or 2027.

Here, you’ll find the heart of my work and a glimpse into what’s next. Whether you’re diving into the cinematic scope of Visionary Man or anticipating my upcoming projects, I’m honored to share this journey with you. Explore, engage, and check back often, as I’ll be adding more recorded works and hopefully even merchandise in the near future.

The New Album

Between 1989 and 1993, an album was recorded and readied to shop to all the major record labels.   But by late 1992, an upheaval in music of thunderous proportions shook the record industry to its core, and a dream, (along with countless others) died.

As a result, the project was shelved.   And there it remained, shrouded in obscurity for over 30 years.

Until Now.

From the mind and pen of Dean Vallecillo comes an unearthly display of cinematic musical storytelling.   Melodic, Powerful, and with a Prog Rock undercurrent that some might call  “a time capsule from a bygone era”.

Some might even call it Visionary.
